Mindfulness Basics: Getting Started
The Core Principles of Mindfulness
Mindfulness is more than just a practice; it is a way of being. At its heart, it involves paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally. This means observing thoughts, feelings, and sensations as they arise without trying to change them. The key components of mindfulness include awareness, focus, acceptance, and presence. Awareness involves recognizing what is happening internally and externally. Focus is the ability to concentrate on a particular object or thought. Acceptance is acknowledging and embracing thoughts and feelings without judgment. Lastly, presence refers to being fully engaged in the current moment.
